MARGATE SWIMMING CLUB HOLDS ITS 26TH OPEN GALA PDF Print E-mail

 

  Margate Swimming Club recently held it's 26th Open Gala at Hartsdown Leisure Centre, welcoming competing clubs from all over Kent. It was an especially poignant day for club members, who were determined to do well to celebrate the memory of Head Coach, Terry Rossiter, who had lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer only days before. Terry was always extremely proud of his swimmers and the children excelled by producing 76 personal best times during the course of the day, a huge tribute to his many years of dedication and hard work.

 Despite competition from clubs such as Beckenham and Black Lion, 17 swimmers from Margate collected 41 medals between them. Charlie Gambrill produced three 1st place finishes, with Chelsea Jarman taking two 1sts and two 2nds. Other medal winners were Megan Lane 1st,3rd, Ciaran Claris 2nd,2nd,3rd,6th, Chloe Gambrill 2nd,3rd,4th, Darryl Scott 2nd,6th, Ruby Watson 3rd,3rd,3rd,4th, Charlie Eshelby 3rd,3rd,4th,5th, Aaron Laxton 3rd,3rd,3rd, Francesca Bedingfield 3rd,3rd, Ellen Berry McIntosh 5th,5th, Hannah Denny 5th,6th, Ethan Bexley 5th,6th, Bowen Goldhawk 2nd, Charlie Pittock 3rd, Rhiannon Goldhawk 5th and Jack Baker 6th.

It was a hugely successful day and all the competing swimmers produced excellent swims with the squad also consisting of Chloe Warner, Holly Cleveland, Charlotte Williams, Isobel Smith, Ross Griffiths, Daniel Berry McIintosh, Aiden Warner, Gregory McMillan, Maia Cocks, Charlotte Taffs, Lily Raven, Hannah Dale, Charlotte Day, Charlie Day, Emma Farley, Robbie Watson, Rosie Raven, Corey Dale, George Day and Michael Buckley.

BECKENHAM OPEN 2010 PDF Print E-mail

              

Fifteen Margate Swimmers recently travelled to the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace to compete in the Beckeneham Open Meet. It was the first time that most of the swimmers had ever swum in a 50m pool and was an excellent opportunity to experience the difference between long course and short course competitions.

All the swimmers performed well producing some very good long course times.Two swimmers enjoyed medal success with Chloe Gambrill winning a bronze in the 11 years 200m butterfly and Charlie Gambrill taking home the silver in the 12/13 years 50m freestyle.

Swimmers competing were Francesca Bedingfield, Ellen Berry-McIntosh, Liam Cleveland, Hannah Denny, Charlie Eshelby, Chloe Gambrill, Charlie Gambrill, Bowen Goldhawk, Rhys Goldhawk,Chelsea Jarman, Joshua Lewis, Darryl Scott, Joe Spear, Louis Thomas and Ruby Watson.

     Swimmers from Margate Swimming Club enjoyed a successful day of competing at the recent Orpington Ojays Open Meet, held at Medway Park.

    Seven swimmers came home with medals with Charlie Gambrill winning a trio of golds in the 13 yrs 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle. Joe Spear won a silver and a bronze medal in the 15yrs 100 breaststroke and 50m freestyle respectively and Chloe Gambrill won a silver medal in the 11yrs 50m butterfly. Bronze medals were won by Bowen Goldhawk in the 11 yrs 50m breastroke, Joshua Lewis in the 9 yrs freestyle, Ellen Berry- McIntosh in the 12 yrs 100m backstroke and Hannah Denny in the 10yrs 50m freestyle.

In total the swimmers achieved 18 personal bests with a special mention going to Rhys Goldhawk who, for the first time, went under the minute in the 100m freestyle.

Swimmers competing were Francesca Bedingfield, Ellen Berry- McIntosh, Hannah Denny, Chloe Gambrill, Rhiannon Goldhawk, Chelsea Jarman, Megan Lane, Ruby Watson, Ethan Bexley, Charlie Eshelby, Charlie Gambrill, Bowen Goldhawk, Rhys Goldhawk, Joshua Lewis, Darryl Scott, Joe Spear and Robbie Watson.

MARGATE SWIMMERS ACHIEVE COUNTY SUCCESS PDF Print E-mail

Kents medal winnersMargate Swimming Club had fourteen swimmers qualify to compete at this years Kent County Championships, which were held over the last four weekends at Black Lion in Gillingham. The Championships have strict qualifying times which means that swimmers taking part have the opportunity to compete against the best in Kent.

Three swimmers performed particularly well, enjoying the experience of being medal winners at county competition level. Charlie Gambrill won four medals in the 13 year old age group; gaining 3rd place in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle and fourth place in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. He also achieved qualifying entry times in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke for the South East Regional Championships, to be held in May at Crawley. Chloe Gambrill won a fourth place medal in the 11 year old age group 200m butterfly and Joshua Lewis won a fourth place medal in the 9 year old age group for 50m freestyle.

Personal best times were achieved by Ellen Berry McIntosh, Ethan Bexley, Ciaran Claris, Chelsea Jarman, Darryl Scott and Louis Thomas with good swims also by Charlie Eshelby, Bowen Goldhawk, Rhys Goldhawk, Joe Spear and Megan Lane.

MARGATE ENJOY SUCCESS AT SHEERNESS FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING PDF Print E-mail

Margate Swimming Club enjoyed great success at the recent Sheerness Memorial Gala, winning the event in impressive style. Fielding a mixed team of both experienced and less experienced, younger swimmers, it was a huge achievement to walk away with the winners shield for the second year running.

The competing swimmers gave determined performances with 24 personal best times being achieved. First places were won by Francesca Bedingfield, Ellen Berry McIntosh, Hannah Denny, Charlie Eshelby, Charlie Gambrill, Chloe Gambrill, Rhys Goldhawk, Bowen Goldhawk, Megan Lane, Aaron Laxton, Joshua Lewis, Darryl Scott, Louis Thomas and Robbie Watson, with Margate also taking first place in the breaststroke and freestyle squadron relays.

Other Swimmers competing were Ruby Watson, Liam Cleveland, Rosie Raven, Abbigail Sayer, Charlotte Williams, Daniel Berry McIntosh, Kirsten Cox, Lewis Lintern, Will Eaton, Corey Dale, Maia Cocks, Hannah Dale, Gregory McMillan, Rhiannon Goldhawk, Michael Buckley, Ciaran Claris, Isobel Smith, Holly Cleveland, Joe Spear and Ethan Bexley.
