Margate Swimming Club members swam brilliantly producing strong results at the City of Rochester 2007 Open Gala, held at Black Lion in Gillingham on Saturday 21st April. They continued their success at recent galas with their fantastic efforts achieving 60 personal bests, 17 top 6 finishes and a further 7 reserve finalist placings, from an entered team of just 22 swimmers.
In the 10 years age group and continuing on strong performances at recent galas, Magenta Balcombe took second place in the 50 metre backstroke and 6th place in both Butterfly and Freestyle events and Lauren Joy took 1st place in the 50 metre butterfly, 2nd in breastroke and 4th in freestyle, with a reserve finalist place in backstroke. Both swimmers achieved personal bests.
George Delaney, Callum Doody and Darryl Scott all swam well to achieve personal bests in their 50 metre events, with Darryl being a reserve finalist in both his backstroke and butterfly events.
The 11/12 years age group brought a fantastic 3rd place for Chelsea Jarman in the 50 metre butterfly with a personal best time, although she was one of the youngest competitors in her event. Chelsea also achieved a reserve finalist place in freestyle and personal bests in both her breastroke and backstroke events. Parys Altree, Rosie Raven and Ruby Watson all achieved personal bests.
Joe Spear took 2nd place in the boys 50 metre breastroke and 5th place in both his butterfly and freestyle events, narrowly missing out on a final place for backstroke, coming in 7th. Michael Buckley, Phillip Bullen and Ben Wright all swam well and achieved personal bests in all their events.
The 13/14 year age group brought a 4th position and a new personal best for Aston Drew in the 100 metre freestyle whilst Rhys Goldhawk narrowly missed the final placing 7th in the 100 metre butterfly and a personal best in freestyle. Both Rosie Raven and Jasmine Willatt achieved personal bests in their 100 metre freestyle and breastroke events.
Kirsten Cox took 5th place in the 15/16 years 100 metre breastroke with Lauren Munson achieving two top 10 placings. Hannah Raven took a fantastic 3rd place in butterfly with a new personal best and was reserve finalist for both her 100 metre backstroke and freestyle events.
In the Open events, Margate took two final placings with Jason Munson taking 2nd place and Chris Short taking 4th place in the mens 100 metre breastroke. Jason took 6th place in the mens freestyle event with Chris taking 5th place in the mens butterfly. Chris also achieved a reserve finalist place in the mens freestyle.
